As per Government Resolution dated 06-03-1997, Rural Water Supply Department was established under Zilla Parishad. Formerly, under this department, total number of 6 subdivisions were there consisting Zilla Parishad Rural Water Supply Sub- division, Yavatmal, Ralegaon, Wani, Pandharkawada, Pusad and Darwha respectively. However, as per the Government Resolution of the Water Supply and Sanitation
Department vide number जपआ2016 2.5.301/पापु-२३ dated 28th December 2022, a
revised structure of posts in the Rural Water Supply Department in the Zilla Parishad has been fixed and considering the enhanced work of the Water Supply Department, it has been approved to sanction 1 separate sub-division for each taluka. Accordingly, now Rural Water Supply Sub-Divisions are being established in 16 talukas.
There are a total numbers of 17 sub-divisions of Rural Water Supply Department under Zilla Parishad, Yavatmal, consisting 16 sub-divisions and 1 mechanical sub-division. Under this department, rural-level tap water supply schemes are implemented to provide clean drinking water and are then handed over to the respective Gram Panchayat. It also grants technical approval for related works. During water scarcity, a plan is prepared to address the shortage by undertaking measures such as constructing borewells, acquiring wells, and implementing temporary tap water supply schemes.
For this work, there are different branches, and the technical branch is responsible for providing technical and administrative approvals for water supply
scheme estimates. The works of the schemes implemented by the department are supervised by the Branch Engineers and Junior Engineers of the sub-divisions. Apart from this, a mechanical sub-division has been included under this department. This subdivision carries out works such as installing new hand pumps, electric pumps, dual pumps, solar pumps, etc. Also the Assistant Geologist and Junior Geologist of Ground Water Survey Development System have been appointed by deputation in the Rural Water Supply Department of the Zilla Parishad to inspect the site for the water supply scheme and issue the certificate of origin for Vindhan wells.
The the Establishment Branch handles the establishment related matters of Class-2/Class-3 officers of the Water Supply Department/Sub-Division, salary related matters of employees, service related matters of employees working in the Sub- Division, leave matters, annual salary increment, salary payments, travel allowance payments, salary fixation, retirement matters, transfers, appointments, etc.
The accounts branch handles the work payments of contractors, maintains records, and the warehouse branch handles the purchase of goods, maintains stock registers, etc.
