Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee

    Information about the Department:-

Irregularity of monsoon and frequent droughts had become a matter of serious concern for the state government of Maharashtra. Rural areas of the state have been facing scarcity of food, employment and water due to drought. Therefore, in order to mitigate drought Maharashtra Government has taken permanent and long-term measures by employing unskilled labourers to preserve the natural resources of the rural areas and manage forest, soil and water in the state for which Maharashtra state assembly enacted “Maharashtra Employment Guarantee Act, 1977”.

During the year 2005, the Parliament of India passed the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (currently known as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and commenced across India.

Migration of labourer’s from rural areas is being tackled through NREGA by strengthening their source of income. For that, unskilled labourers are being employed to create immovable wealth.
