    Introduction

    Zilla Parishad, Yavatmal

    Before May 1, 1962, Janpad Sabhas existed in Maharashtra. With a view to developing local self- government institutions by involving them in development, involving the local people in development plans to a greater extent and decentralizing power, Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act, 1961, was established in the districts of Maharashtra on May 1, 1962; Zilla Parishads are to be established in 2 places in the district and Panchayat Samiti is to be established in the tehsils excluding the municipal council areas. Accordingly, people's representatives are elected from a total of 78 constituencies in rural areas under Yavatmal Zilla Parishad. In this, the term of office of the office bearers is 2 years and 6 months and the term of the members is 5 years. The Chairman and Vice Chairman are elected from among the elected members of the Zilla Parishad. The State Government appoints an IAS cadre officer as the Chief Executive Officer. The schemes of the Government and the Zilla Parishad are implemented for the people of the rural areas through the Zilla Parishad. There are 6 office bearers in the Zilla Parishad as follows and they are the Chairman or Chairperson of the Subject Committee of the concerned department as indicated in front of their names.
